"Dad?" Mason realized his mistake as the word left his mouth. The stranger's tail was too long. That, and the creature's front pair of legs didn't quite reach the ground--more arms than legs, really--ending with blade-like claws instead of feet.
"Say what now?" The stranger sounded understandably confused. Mason hardly resembled a life form, let alone a possible relative. People didn't normally look like hollow boxes with floating, unattached hands and feet.
"Nevermind. I'm just a little mixed up today." And every day, it seems.

The crowd roared as the great bubble rocketed past another trap, narrowly avoiding the snapping stalactites of a rocky jaw. Magma splashed past the sides as it entered the sixth magma vein, impelling Ackquasis to pull the most hilarious expression Cassidy had ever seen. She sunk into her seat, giggling, unable to contain her fits of laughter. Terrence shot her a disapproving look, and attempted to say something over the raucous bellows of a rowdy crowd. She smiled at him, and turned back to the hologram, which also displayed a convenient map showing the bubble's progress.

There was little to greet Daniel during his gradual, drifting journey back into consciousness. The surgical green shades of a practically-empty ward room offered little comfort, its few furnishings organised with uncomfortably fastidious care. Metallic instruments buzzed and beeped just out of sight, their presence only revealed by a reflected shaft of artificial sunlight drifting in from a false window. It was somewhat amusing, he thought, that such effort went into making the room as unappealing as possible. Perhaps the decorator had suffered an unfortunate bump to the head and forgot the meaning
