There was much to contemplate in this place, and no one to talk to save the kuldarus it shared the room with. The solitude would be comforting, were it really alone. Johnathan's new habit of taking an early morning run did not stop for changing locations. The activity calmed his mind, thoughts resting in the cyclical pattern of breath, the simplicity of one foot in front of the other. Saiph had long ago been told that frivolous indulgence was a mark of poor character. For a few moments of pleasure and enjoyment, one could suffer a lifetime of damnation, torment, things she never found rightly pleasant to think about. So why is it she had allowed herself to be swayed? What had possessed her to give into temptation and break the laws of fasting when for years she had been conditioned to not feel even the slightest bit of hunger for weeks on end? It had seemed harmless enough at the time. A little outing with someone she found to be a wonderful companion and who had offered her something to tide any cravings she might have.
Valentine's Day, sometimes called the bane of singles everywhere. Sure, it's a day for couples everywhere to shower their significant other with expensive gifts, but for others it just reinforces the fact that they're alone.
That's why Dala had always hated it. She hadn't even been born on Earth and it had even managed to annoy her, all the way in space on some banged up trading ship. Every year on the ship that had been her home for the larger part of her life, the so-called holiday had been there, still getting in people's faces like some obnoxious jerk with a point to prove.

Viridian couldn't help but raise a brow as she found yet another duo of contestants cuddled together, giggling madly and doing interesting activities.
It wasn't that she didn't appreciate the opportunity to observe the courtship rituals of the multitude of species that could be found in the complex. In fact, the Podekusai had topped off a memory orb already recording her findings, something sure to aid Mipoen someday in the future. However, she did find it odd that suddenly every individual, let him be obnoxious or more withdrawn, had grown very fond of a neighbor.
"Perhaps," Viridian mused quietly, "it is mating season." She paused,
